“Sustainable” first and foremost means reusing as much as possible and avoiding over-consumption. This means a big emphasis on upcycling and avoiding “upselling” to get customers to buy more than they need. Some materials are hard to upcycle because of hygiene or degradation concerns (i.e., elastics that degrade over time) but others should be reused or thrifted as much as possible.

After that, fully recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable packaging is just as important as “clean” or organic ingredients. Here, it doesn’t matter if ingredients are “clean” or “natural” if the product uses single-use plastics that are impossible to recycle in most parts of the United States. Although glass, cardboard, and metal packaging have their flaws, they are usually easier to recycle when cleaned and sorted properly. In the U.S., only around 9% of plastics are recycled, in part due to the logistical and chemical difficulties in recycling plastic.

Not necessarily. Organic certification can be hard to get for small farms and businesses, even if their practices are very responsible and sustainable overall. Depending on the product, where it was made/sourced, and how many hands it passes through to get to you, it’s sometimes more “eco-friendly” to get something that’s mostly made of organic ingredients but isn’t 100% certified organic.

One-Stop Earth Shop prioritizes vegan products, but may stock silk or wool items when they can be responsibly sourced. Due to difficulties identifying and sourcing responsible sources, boar bristle brushes are not available at this time.

The vast majority of fabrics on this site are all-natural. At times, due to the nature of upcycling, a small percentage of spandex, nylon, or polyester may be present. Any product that is not 100% natural materials will be clearly marked. Any product that contains glitter is presumed to be a synthetic glitter. (There are very few products containing any glitter on this site.)

Currently, shipping is only available to the U.S. and its territories. Hopefully, shipping to Canada and Mexico will be possible soon. Other countries may be added later.

Between credit card fees, store hosting fees, and an increase in card testing fraud targeting small purchases, all purchases will be subject to a $5 minimum - which means that stickers will be sold in sets of 2 or more. (Same with tiny scrunchies, which may be available in the store at various times.)

Most orders are sent within 2 business days. If there is any kind of delay in initial shipment due to severe weather or other logistical issues, you’ll receive an email letting you know.

Generally, returns are only accepted if there is a significant structural defect (seams, etc.) or printing flaw of 1/2” or more that was not evident in the product photos. If you wish to return an item, please email or use the contact form within 5 business days of the item’s arrival.

If an item arrives damaged, please email or use the contact form within 5 business days of the item’s arrival and we can work on filing a claim with USPS. Please note that I re-photograph items immediately before packaging - fraudulent claims that the shop damaged an item will be met with timestamped photos.

Unfortunately, items are not returnable if they are the wrong size. Upcycled clothing is listed with careful measurements taken. If you’re not sure if an item will fit, please feel free to send an email before purchasing to ask about stretch, specific measurements, etc.

Great question! This is a pretty new business, so between budget and space constraints, there are a lot of things that aren’t stocked here yet. Feel free to request an item/brand via the Contact form. Priority will be given to hard-to-find items or international brands that aren’t easy to get through other U.S. online shops.

To the best of the owner’s knowledge and belief, no generative AI is ever used in the production of this business. This includes sticker designs, social media posts, written content, and video content. Even AI-generated subtitles and AI-powered background removal tools are avoided. (This is a Virginia-based business, and the surge in AI is driving demand for data centers that are hard on our state’s energy grid - read here to learn more.)

On rare occasion, a thrifted fabric or material has had an AI-generated design that wasn’t discovered until after the owner acquired it, unpacked it, and examined it even more closely than she did in the store. Unfortunately, AI-generated designs have become rampant, and they sometimes end up in thrift or liquidation bins. The choice then is to either try to use them or let them go to landfills or downcyclers. (And let’s face it: AI designs definitely deserve to go to be shredded and made into carpet padding, but there is an excess of fabric being disposed of right now, so landfills or beaches are likely destinations too!)

Depending on the situation, the AI-designed fabric may be used in ways that still minimize waste (sewing practice, using it as a dropcloth, cutting out the parts that actually seem to be AI, etc.) In any case, extensive efforts are made to keep AI slop from appearing in the products on this site.
